ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday disqualified Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Samina Khawar Hayat from the National Assembly (NA) membership and ordered Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to start criminal proceedings against her.

The apex court in its judgment on fake degree case against her, observed that Ms Hayat has failed to prove the authenticity of her degree and ordered ECP to cancel her gazette notification about National Assembly membership.

The court observed that during 2008 elections Ms Hayat lied about her educational degree. The Supreme Court ordered ECP to initiate criminal case against her.
