PPP announces candidates for upcoming Senate elections

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced its candidates for the Senate polls scheduled to be held on March 3.

In his address at a news conference in Karachi on Monday, the former prime minister and the PPP senior leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that Nadeem Afzal Chan will be party’s candidate from Punjab.

The PPP leader said that Farooq H Naek will contest Senate polls on technocrat seat and Sassi Palejo on Women seat while Rehman Malik, Saleem Mandviwalla, Abdul Latif Ansari and Gian Chand on general seats from Sindh.

Likewise, Noor Alam Khan and Khanzada Khan will be party’s candidates on general seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sabir Baloch will contest Senate elections from Balochistan.

As many as 52 Senators will retire on March 11 while 52 new lawmakers will be elected on March 3 for the 104-member upper house of the bicameral Parliament.

Those 52 Senators who are retiring on March 11 include 21 lawmakers from PPP, eight from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), six from Awami National Party (ANP), three each from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), two from Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A) and one each from Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Pakhtun-khwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and National Party (NP).
