Nawaz summons first meeting of National Security Council on Thursday April 17

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz summon has summoned  first meeting of National Security Council (NSC) on Thursday April 17, 2014 to review the dialogue process with the Taliban. Earlier, PM Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with head of opposition and former President Asif Ali Zardari to taken him into confidence over any expected action against terrorists outfit and Pakistan Protection Bill.

The NSC is a principal forum that is mandated for considering national security and foreign policy matters with the senior national security advisers and Cabinet ministers. The meeting will be attended by Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid the heads of the Armed Forces, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, DG ISI and DG IB.

Meanwhile, the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has announced its decision to not extending the ceasefire and said that the government had failed to respond positively to the militant organisation’s ceasefire of more than 40 days. The TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shaihid said that the Taliban shura had decided not to extend the ceasefire because more than 50 of their activists were killed in custody during the past 40 days and added that the justifiable demands of the militant organisation were not met. However, he added, that the Taliban would be willing for to hold meaningful dialogue if the government was ready for serious talks.
