MIRANSHAH: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif visited North Waziristan Agency on Thursday where he was given a briefing over the security situation, the inter services public relations (ISPR) said.

It was his first field formations visit to North Waziristan since he was appointed as the new army chief.

The ISPR said that General Raheel Sharif was given a detailed briefing over operational matters in the federally administered tribal areas (FATA) area.

The army chief also met officers and Jawans deployed in the area and inquired about ground situation and armed forces’ actions against terrorism besides development activities in the area.

Earlier in the day, the COAS General Raheel Sharif visited Corps Headquarters Peshawar and discussed professional matters and other related issues with Corps Commander Lt General Khalid Rabbani.

The Corps Commander briefed the army chief about the security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
