ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision of phase-wise acceptance of resignations of its members’ national assembly.

The PTI Central Secretary General Asad Umar on Monday formally filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in this regard.

Speaking to the media after filing the petition, Asad Umar said that the acceptance of only 11 resignations was another manifestation of the ECP’s biases.

Asad Umar said that the ECP has not been a neutral institution and the partial and biased decision speaks volumes about it. He said that the Commission has become a political party, which is not acceptable to them.

The PTI leader went on to say that the NA Speaker is not authorized to stop resignation, who, he said, accepted only 11 resignations after three and a half months.

“On April 11, 125 of our people said on the floor of the assembly, we have submitted our resignations,” he said.

Asad added that on April 13, the then Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri accepted the resignations together. So what authority did the ECP to not accept all the resignations even after lapse of over three months?

The PTI Secretary General demanded that PTI tendered resignations together hence these should be accepted en bloc instead of pasheses.

Asad Umar said that two provincial assemblies passed resolutions against the ECP.

Moreover, he asked the youth to suggest a suitable symbol for ECP on social media as on what electoral symbol the Commission could join PDM anytime because it was no more a neutral institution.
