FAISALABAD, Pakistan: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan on Thursday said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had fulfilled yet another election commitment to hold free, fair and transparent local bodies (LB) elections.

Meanwhile, polling was underway for election of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Mayors and Deputy Mayors in Punjab. In Punjab, out of 224 seats, 64 candidates had been elected unopposed.

Talking to media after visiting a polling camp outside TMA Hall in Faisalabad on Thursday, he said  that establishment of local governments would not only empower the masses at grass root level but also initiate public welfare projects at their doorsteps.

Rana Sanaullah said that the government had made best possible arrangements to conduct LB elections in a transparent manner and hoped that newly elected LB leadership would serve the masses in addition to provide basic needs at their doorsteps.

The law minister said the elected mayor and chairman of municipal corporation and district council would undertake a development agenda to facilitate the masses and in this connection the element of corruption in development projects would be totally eliminated.

Commenting on the LB elections, he said that Faisalabad was one of the best examples for free, fair and transparent elections.

The minister said that position of PML-N candidate for chairman district council Chaudhary Zahid Nazir was very strong candidate. Similarly, candidate for the office of mayor of municipal corporation Muhammad Razzaq Malik was also expected to make clean sweep.
