ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: While accepting the request of Khawar Maneka, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has transferred the Iddat Case against the former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to the Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka.
Last month, complainant Khawar Maneka lodged an objection against Judge Shahrukh Arjumand hearing the Iddat Case, requesting him to recuse himself from hearing the appeals.
Though initially judge Shahrukh Arjumand turned a blind eye to Moneka’s request but on May 29, when he was believed to announce the reserved verdict in the Case, the judge sought transfer of the Case to another Court.
Now the Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka will hear the Iddat Case.
It’s worth noting that Imran Khan and his wife were sentenced to seven years in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 5,00,000 each in February 2024 by a Court that ruled their 2018 marriage broke the law.
Bushra Bibi was accused of not completing the waiting period mandated by Islam, called “Iddat,” after divorcing her previous husband and marrying Imran Khan.
