PoliticsPassage of a resolution in Senate seeking polls delay condemnable: PTI Chairman
  • Urges SC to enforce its orders regarding Feb 8 elections
  • Says 14 Senators passed resolution has no legal or binding force in process of holding polls
  • Prays top court to ensure level playing field including allotment of ‘bat’ symbol

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has vehemently denounced the passage of the undemocratic resolution in the Upper House of the Parliament seeking delay in the general elections, demanding the Supreme Court to enforce its orders regarding February 8, 2024 polls.

Strongly reacting to the resolution passed in the upper house of the parliament seeking delay in the elections, the PTI Chairman said: “A resolution of 14 Senators based on their personal opinions, has no legal or binding force in the constitutional process of holding general elections.”

Barrister Gohar Khan said that the attempt by some political parties to defer the much-needed polls beyond the scheduled date of February 8 by using the floor of senate was tantamount to attack on constitution and democracy.

The PTI Chairman vowed that PTI was fully prepared for the general elections and would not accept and tolerate any nefarious attempts to delay the elections come what may.

Barrister Gohar made it clear that a resolution passed by 14 Senators has no legal or binding force in the constitutional process of holding general elections because it based on their personal opinions, demanding the apex court to enforce its orders regarding February 8, 2024 polls.

The PTI Chairman stated that people and election-scary elements violated the sanctity of the senate by passing the unconstitutional resolution to postpone the elections, adding that it is the constitutional obligations of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the caretaker government to conduct free, fair and transparent elections within the constitutionally mandated 90-day time limit.

The PTI Chairman made it clear that the passage of the unconstitutional and undemocratic resolution seeking to postpone the general elections was a violation of the order of the Supreme Court (SC) and contempt of the court.

Gohar further stressed that elections must take place on time and the SC to enforce its orders and observations regarding February 08 elections in the country.

The PTI leader reiterated that PTI strongly supports and demands holding of general elections on February 08. “PTI further prays SC to ensure level playing field including allotment of election symbol to PTI for fair and legitimate elections.

Barrister Gohar Khan demanded that the top court should take immediate notice of the resolution passed by the Senate, besides taking effective and remedial measures to foil the attempts to either delay the elections or affect their transparency and fairness.
