ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday issued instructions to provincial governments for the upcoming local body elections, leaving up to them to decide whether they want to hold elections on party or non-party basis.

The ECP advised the political parties to not use their elections symbols in the local body elections as it creates problems.

It was further stated that the Nazim, Deputy Nazims and various members face problems in allotting election symbols to every candidate in the election.

On July 18, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered provincial governments to hold local body elections in their respective provinces not later than September.
