ISLAMABAD: Jamait Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday welcomed the release of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and said that it would help Afghan reconciliation process.

In a statement issued from Islamabad, the JUI-F chief said that Baradar’s release would help take Doha talks forward. He said that durable peace in Pakistan was linked with restoration of peace in neighboring Afghanistan.

Fazl said that those imprisoned Taliban should be set free who want to be part of the dialogue process.

Earlier in the day, Pakistani authorities released detained Afghan Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in order to further facilitate the Afghan reconciliation process.
