ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday announced to hold presidential elections on August 6, as five-year constitutional term of incumbent President Asif Ali Zardari is ending on September 9, 2013.

The ECP said that a summary was sent to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Farkhruddin G.Ibrahim, who gave final approval.

According to the approved schedule, the nomination forms would be submitted on July 24. The scrutiny of the forms would conclude on July 26 whereas the last day to withdraw candidacy would be July 29.

The election for the position of President would take place on August 6 whereas the results would be announced the next day on August 7.

The polling would be held at the Parliament House in Islamabad and buildings of the four provincial assemblies in Lahore‚ Karachi‚ Quetta and Peshawar from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Meanwhile‚ the ECP has appointed Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Justice Muhammad Anwar Kasi as Presiding Officer of the election to be held at the Parliament House in Islamabad.

Chief Justices of the respective high courts have been appointed Presiding Officers for elections to be held at the buildings of the four provincial assemblies.
