ISLAMABAD: Dr Abdul Qadir Khan, renowned Pakistani nuclear scientist, has dissolved his political party the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Pakistan (TTP), almost a year after he formed party as a platform for campaigning against corruption and promoting political awareness.

“Yes, I have dissolved my party,” the 77-year-old Khan said on Saturday, adding that he took the decision after consultation with his companions and will file the termination documents to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Khan formed his party Tehrik-e-Tahafuz Pakistan (TTP) or Save Pakistan Movement in July last year as a platform for campaigning against corruption and promoting political awareness among the country’s youth.

His party, which fielded 111 candidates for different seats of the national and four provincial assemblies, failed to win a single seat in the May 11 elections.

Khan said he did not want to create any additional hurdles for the ruling government now that they had been elected.

“Elections have already taken place in the country and people have given mandate to Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and we should let them function smoothly,” Khan said.

However, Khan said his party will keep monitoring the governments’ performance and would become active again if they failed to deliver.
