QUETTA: The federal government has decided to appoint Muhammad Khan Achakzai, the elder brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai, as Balochistan new governor, sources said.

In this regard, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sent the summary to President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday.

Muhammad Khan Achakzai is a retired bureaucrat from the Planning Commission of Pakistan, where he served as a chief economist in Grade-22.

Achakzai’s notification regarding his governorship is likely to be issued within next couple of days.

Former Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Ali Magsi tendered his resignation on June 2 soon after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had nominated Dr Abdul Malik as chief minister of the province and announced that the new governor of the province would be from the PkMAP.
