Issue of PTI resignations remains unresolved

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The issue of acceptance of resignations of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers in the National Assembly remained unresolved over question of modalities for verification of their resignations.

The Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had served a written notice on PTI members to appear before him at 2.00 pm today (Wednesday, October 29).

The speaker also allowed them to come together but made it clear that it is legal requirement that every member will appear before him individually for verification of his or her resignation.

The PTI members came to the Parliament House today but did not appear individually before the speaker despite explaining of the legal position to them by Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi.

The PTI members insisted that they would appear before the Speaker together.

Later talking to media outside the parliament house, the PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qurshi said that party MNAs presented themselves for verification of the resignations but the National Assembly Speaker did not show up.

“We were made to wait for two and half hours but the NA Speaker did not come, we had decided to wait till 4:00 PM but the speaker did not show up at 4:15,” Qureshi claimed.

Qureshi said that the PTI lawmakers had fulfilled their moral duty by appearing at the speaker’s office.
