PESHAWAR, Pakistan: In a bid to counter threats of polio virus spread in the wake of displacement of thousands of people from the North Waziristan tribal region, the health authorities have set up more than 40 transit points to administer polio vaccines.

An official of the UNICEF said that these transit points have been set up at Frontier Region Bannu, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Hangu and Kurram agency.

The official said that about 250,000 children have been administered polio vaccines till now after arrival of the internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The UNICEF officials also advised parents to ensure administration of polio drops to their children as virus spread more rapidly in the prevailing summer season.
