The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) convened a conference titled “Strengthening Democracy through Devolution of Power” at HRCP Auditorium, Lahore, bringing together civil society, legal experts, community leaders, and youth to advance dialogue on decentralization and inclusive governance.

The session, moderated by Nasir William, emphasized the need for collective action to strengthen democratic systems at the grassroots level.
In his video message, Peter Jacob Executive Director CSJ highlighted that meaningful devolution is essential for inclusive governance and effective participation of marginalized communities.
Ahmed Iqbal Chaudhary Member of Punjab Assembly stressed the urgent need to operationalize Article 140-A, noting that empowered local governments are key to delivering transparent, responsive, and equitable public services.
Participants identified critical gaps in the implementation of decentralization policies and called for stronger political, administrative, and financial empowerment of local governments. The discussion underscored that effective devolution is vital to bridge the gap between citizens and the state and to ensure inclusive representation.
The conference concluded with a strong call for the immediate and effective implementation of Article 140-A, enhanced institutional coordination, and sustained advocacy to advance democratic governance in Pakistan.
CSJ reaffirmed its commitment to promoting constitutional rights, inclusive governance, and human rights through continued policy engagement and advocacy.
