LONDON: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain was arrested in London on Tuesday on the charge of money laundering, prompting the authorities to put the security on high alert in Karachi following Altaf Hussain’s arrest.
The Metropolitan Police Service London (MPS) also known as Scotland Yard confirmed that the MQM leader was arrested in the money laundering case.
The MQM leader was arrested from his residence in North West by the counter terrorism squad.
Altaf Hussain was being investigated for money laundering worth at least 400,000 pounds as well as for incitement to violence and the party’s leader Dr Imran Farooq’s murder.
Meanwhile, the MQM members started gathering at Nine Zero following Altaf Hussain’s arrest in London.
On the other hand, the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE-100 index) fell 780 points immediately after the news and commercial centres as well petrol pumps across Karachi started to shut down.
