Peace talks with Taliban challenged in SC

ISLAMABAD: The ongoing dialogue process between the government and the Taliban has been challenged in the Supreme Court on Saturday under article 184 of the constitution, media reports said.

The petitioner argued that the negotiating team members nominated by the government to hold talks with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are non-elected.

A four member-committee formed by the government for talks with the TTP includes the premier’s advisor on national affairs Irfan Siddiqui‚ veteran journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai‚ former ambassador and expert on Afghanistan affairs Rustam Shah Mehmand and a former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) official Major (retd) Muhammad Amir.
