10-year-old girl would-be suicide bomber arrested in Afghanistan

KABUL: The Afghan police have arrested a girl who intended to carry out a suicide attack against Afghan border police in southern Helmand province, the Afghan interior ministry said in a statement.

The 10-year-old girl, named as Spozhmai, was sent on the mission by her brother, a local Taliban commander, but before she detonated her explosives-packed vest near a police checkpoint in the district of Khanashin, police detained her, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the Helmand governor’s spokesman Omar Zwak said on Tuesday that they have appointed a team to investigate the matter.

The spokesman said that they will try to find the brother and father of the girl, and they will visit the police post and talk to the police who found and detained the girl.
