MQM calls for ban on Peoples Aman Committee

PoliticsMQM calls for ban on Peoples Aman Committee

ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday called on the government to impose ban on the Peoples Aman Committee and said that Pakistan People Party (PPP)-led Sindh government took some steps in hurry such as arrest of MQM ex-MPA during the targeted operation being conducted in Karachi.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, the MQM’s MNA Waseem Sajjad said the arrest of Lyari gangsters from Lahore proved that the allegations of disrupting Karachi’s peace leveled against his party were fake.

The MQM leader said his party had already stated that the kidnappers, extortionists and those responsible for killing Urdu speaking people enjoyed a political patronage.

Sajjad alleged that the Sindh government was supporting criminals and PPP’s MNA Sania Naz had shifted Lyari gangsters from Karachi to Punjab.

In response, PPP’s MNA Shazia Marri said the MQM had been part of the previous government and also enjoyed all the benefits, adding that the PPP would, as usual, continue to respect the law, constitution and courts.

Marri said that Karachi unrest was not limited to Lyari but there were many other troubled areas where certain political parties were involved which would not be tolerated.
