LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif took oath of his office of Punjab Chief Minister in Lahore on Thursday evening, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

Governor Punjab Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Mahmood administered oath to him in a simple and impressive ceremony at the governor house in Lahore. Members of the parliament‚ senior politicians and high officials also attended the ceremony.

Earlier in the day, Shahbaz Sharif was elected as Chief Minister of Punjab for the third time after securing 300 votes.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, who also enjoyed the support of Pakistan Muslim League -Quaid (PML-Q), bagged 34 votes.

At least 344 MPAs used their right to franchise in today’s election held on a division basis.

The PML-N secured a two-thirds majority in the assembly by bagging 305 seats in the May 11 general election and its nominee Rana Iqbal secured 297 votes in the contest for the speaker’s office. The PTI and the PML-Q jointly have 35 members in the house.
