ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Tuesday directed all the four Chief Secretaries of the provinces to fully control the law and order situation in the country and make conducive the environment for election campaign.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry issued these directives while hearing a case pertaining to electoral reforms.

The court ordered chief secretaries of Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide security to candidates and voters.

In his remarks, the Chief Justice said that the law and order situation is better in Punjab and the credit goes to the province al caretaker government.

He directed that all possible steps should be taken to maintain law and order situation. He directed the Election Commission to ensure holding of transparent elections and take the notice of security situation.

The apex court observed that in some areas the candidates do not have protection and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
