ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Friday expressed the confidence that the process of intra-party elections would be completed before April 25.

Addressing a news conference here, he said “the party’s 20th anniversary will be celebrated on April 25 and we are hoping that process of the election will would be completed before the same day.”

He said the election would be held at tehsil, district, regional, provincial and central levels.

Imran Khan said interim setup was already in place to hold the intra-party election.

In light of Justice (retd) Wajih-ud-Din tribunal’s decision, all organizing bodies and positions had been dissolved.

Khan said that Election Commission had been established to hold free, fair and transparent intra-party election.

He said that a commission under the chairmanship of Tasneem Durrani had been setup to finalize modalities for the entire elections process.

He said that it was decided that workers could get themselves registered through mobile phone and their names would be included in the electoral list.

Admitting irregularities in the last intra-party election, he said “We have learnt lesson from the past mistakes, and these will not be repeated in the upcoming election.”

“It is my commitment to hold the party election and I also have given my words to Justice Wajih ud Din for holding afresh intra-party elections,” Khan said.

He said that membership campaign would continue for two months, requesting Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to extend assistance in this regard.

“We are following the constitution by holding the intra-party election and it is the responsibility of the country’s institutions to assistance us.”
