ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: United Nations Pakistan chapter will celebrate International Women’s Day on March 7, the United Nations Pakistan and British High Commission will hold an open debate on the role Women play in media for development.

The debate will feature prominent development and media experts from different constituencies, including the media industry Member states academia and civil society.

International Women’s Day is a worldwide occasion to designate progress made towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

First celebrated over 100 years ago. International Women’s Day has grown into a global celebration of past struggles and accomplishments of women and more importantly an opportunity to look ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generation of women.

On the Eve of Women’s Day the British high commission and UNIC will host the debate on the role women play in media scenario, with a special focus on the development world.

The debate will feature prominent development and media experts from different constituencies including the media industry, Member States and civil society. The discussion aims at highlighting the challenges and the opportunities for female media representatives while reporting on development issue.
