PESHAWAR: In an attempt to prevent a possible backlash from Taliban militants following the death of Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud, the security has been heightened in the federal capital and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The tight security arrangements were made in Islamabad as strict identity checks were being ensured in red zone and its adjoining areas including President House, Prime Minister House and the Parliament House.

On directives from interior ministry, police further stepped up checking at all security pickets besides thorough monitoring on all exits and entry points of the capital.

Likewise, security was increased at all sensitive government installations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s capital city of Peshawar, including cantonment areas, and the localities adjacent to tribal regions.

Blockades were set up at all entry and exit points of the city where the search of suspicious persons was underway whereas there was also a step up in random snap checkings being conducted in the city.

Security agencies were put on high alert in the region whereas the number of personnel deployed at security check posts was also increased. In addition, poIice patrolling was also increased in Peshawar in addition to monitoring of all routes of Peshawar.

Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
