ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Institute of Arabic Language, Islamabad will organize a walk on December 18 (Monday) to promote the Arabic Language in Pakistan.

People from all walks of life will participate in the walk which is annually organized in the Federal Capital by the Institute of Arabic Language on the eve of World Arabic Language Day.

The Principal Institute of Arabic Language Ubaid Ur Rehman will address the participants after the culmination of the walk.

World Arabic Language Day is celebrated all around the World each year including in Pakistan on December 18 with an aim to highlight the importance of Arabic language and its contribution to foster ties among different cultures.

The Day is also celebrated as a mean to promote cultural understanding and encourage dialogue among people who speak different languages.

Besides Islamabad-based Institute Of Arabic Language, governments and other organizations would also organize cultural events, seminars and conferences that showcase the history and richness of the Arabic language.

Seminars and conferences would highlight the current developments in Arabic literature through lectures, talks and workshops by Arabic writers and poets. Likewise, schools would promote the education of Arabic as a medium of communication and organize short story and poetry competitions.

Arabic is a language with a rich history and is spoken by almost 1.5 billion people around the World and in UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) 22 Member States.

World Arabic Language Day signifies the day in 1973 when Arabic became the sixth official language of the United Nations. The other official languages of the UN are French, English, Russian, Spanish and Chinese.
