SHEIKHUPURA: At least 14 persons including women and children were killed and four others injured after a motorcycle rickshaw collided with a train near Khanpur in Sheikhpura district on Saturday.

The accident occurred when Karakoram Express coming from Karachi hit a motorcycle rickshaw whose driver hastily tried to cross an unmanned level crossing near Khanpur in Sheikhupura District on Saturday.

   

The injured people and dead bodies were shifted to hospital, where doctors said 4 injured people were in critical condition.

The federal government announced financial compensation of Rs500, 000 each for the families of those killed in Sheikhupura train crash.

Addressing a press conference, Federal Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said that he was shocked at the tragic accident. The accident took place due to driver’s mistake and overloading, he said.

Rafique said that no district or provincial administration would be allowed to build level crossing at the main line.

The minister said that the whole nation was in shocked by the loss of innocent lives in the collision.
