Nisar orders strict security measures for Ashura

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday ordered the security agencies for unprecedented security arrangements to ward off any untoward incident during the observance of Ashura-e-Muharram.

In a statement, Nisar said that the interior ministry has deployed 32,695 army troops and Civil Armed Forces including Rangers, Frontier Corps and Frontier Constabulary in 54 districts of the country to assist the provincial governments in maintaining law and order during the Muharram days.

The interior minister said that 12 helicopters have also been stationed at various areas to extend air support cover throughout the country.

Moreover, mobile phone services will also remain suspended in all major cities on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
