New education policy to be launched in January next year: NA told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A new education policy will be launched in January next year to improve the standard of education and make it compatible with modern global trends.     

During question hour in the National Assembly on Wednesday, the parliamentary secretary for education and professional training Dr Darshan told that the new education policy is being finalized, and the process for finalization of the policy will be completed by the end of 2014.

Dr Darshan told the Upper House that a committee comprising members from provincial education departments has been constituted to bring a consensus education policy.

The parliamentary secretary said that allocations for the education sector will be enhanced in phased manner.

Federal govt to conduct resurvey of beneficiaries of BISP

The minister of state for parliamentary affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that the government has decided to conduct a resurvey of the beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in order to ensure that the cash grant reaches the deserving people.

Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told that Rs4.1 billion have been disbursed to the deserving people in Balochistan under the BISP during the current fiscal year.

The minister further said that the government plans to widen the network of Sweet Homes under Pakistan Baitul Maal.

The state minister said that the budget of Sweet Homes will be enhanced in the coming years and more sweet homes will be opened at different places in order to accommodate maximum number of orphans.

Moreover, he said that the children of these sweet homes are being provided with quality education at different schools.
