Punjab govt to seal many areas in Lahore tomorrow amid COVID-19 spike

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid has said that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is spreading exponentially in Lahore; therefore, its most infected areas will be sealed from 12 midnight on Tuesday (Tomorrow).

While addressing a Press Conference in Lahore on Monday, Dr. Yasmin Rashid said that grocery stores and medical stores however will remain opened in the sealed areas.

The Provincial Health Minister said that the most number of Coronavirus Cases have been detected in Shahdara, Shad Bagh, Mozang, Harbanspura, Gulberg, Walled City, and Nishtar Town.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid said that along with other infected areas, a few areas of Cantt will also be sealed. The Health Minister said that the lockdown will be eased, once the situation in Coronavirus-infected areas is improved. The Provincial Minister regretted that standard operating procedures (SOPs) were not followed in Lahore. She said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to take stern action to ensure the implementation of SOPs in Punjab.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid said that along with other infected areas, a few areas of Cantt will also be sealed for the next 14 days.

The Health Minister said that the lockdown will be eased, once the situation in Coronavirus-infected areas is improved.

The Provincial Minister regretted that standard operating procedures (SOPs) were not followed in Lahore. She said that wearing masks can help curtail the spread of COVID-19.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to take stern action to ensure the implementation of SOPs in Punjab. 

Out of a total of 54,138 Confirmed Coronavirus Cases registered in Punjab as of June 14, over 26,500 surfaced in Lahore district alone.
