QUETTA, Pakistan: An eight-day anti-polio campaign continues in Quetta, a district in the northwestern province of Balochistan.

The sources in the Balochistan health department said that Quetta has been divided into 35 zones for the campaign.

The health department sources said that overall the polio vaccination campaign will continue in all zones for eight days. They said that almost 4,80,000 children up to the age of five years will be administered polio drops during the campaign.

In addition, they said that the health authorities have constituted 478 mobile teams who will visit door to door to administer anti polio drops to children.

A total of nine polio cases have been reported during the current year across Pakistan which continues to remain one of only three countries in the world where polio is still categorized as an endemic viral infection.

Last year, Pakistan witnessed 296 polio cases, the highest number of such cases reported in the country since 1998.
