GUJRAT: A van carrying school children overturned in Gujrat district of Punjab province on Monday, killing a female student while injuring eight others critically, police and rescue officials said.

The incident took place on Jalalpur Jattan road in Gujrat town this morning where driver of a school van, carrying over 20 female students, lost control over the vehicle reportedly due to over-speeding and the vehicle turned turtle.

They said nine of the students were injured in the mishap. One of them later died in hospital during the treatment.

Police and rescue teams arrived at the accident site and rescued the girls while van driver was arrested by the police.
