NA passes Protection of Pakistan bill amidst opposition protest

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly has passed the Protection of Pakistan bill with a majority vote, the bill seeks to curb threats of terrorism and protect the law abiding citizens.

   

The government rejected all amendments suggested by the opposition.

The opposition parties opposed the bill and staged a walk out from the House to register their protest. They alleged that the bill is against the fundamental rights.

The Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid defended the bill saying it was essential in the prevailing situation. He said the bill was discussed at different stages and all the opposition parties were taken into confidence.

The Minister assured the opposition members that their valid amendments will be incorporated in the bill.
