SocialNA adopts resolution against beggary

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) today adopted a resolution urging the government to take effective steps to end beggary in Islamabad Capital territory.

Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli who moved the resolution said that influential people are behind this menace in the capital. She urged the government to introduce effective legislation to curb this menace.

She also moved a motion calling upon the government to cut extravagant spending of Pakistani embassies abroad.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad informed the House that the government is working to improve the transmission system of electricity.

Responding to a call attention notice‚ he pointed out that the existing system is very weak and efforts are being made to renovate it.

The movers of the call attention notice including Sher Akbar Khan and Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqoob expressed concerns over inoperative electric transformers in most of the villages of district Buner due to overload and non-repair. The Minister of State assured them that their concerns will be forwarded to the concerned department for redressal of complaint.

On points of order‚ different members expressed concern over electricity line losses and faulty transmission system.

They suggested the government to revamp the WAPDA infrastructure and replace the old and outdated transformers with the new ones to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the consumers.

They said alternative sources of energy including wind and solar should be exploited to cope with the energy crisis.

Those who spoke on the issue included Maulana Amir Zaman‚ Dr. Azra Fazal‚ Aisha Syed‚ Muhammad Salman Baloch and Dr. Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandla.
