SocialMetro-type bus service on Islamabad Expressway demanded

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Citizens of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi residing on both sides of the adjoining areas of Islamabad Expressway have demanded of the authorities concerned to initiate a Metro-type bus service to facilitate a huge number of population.

They were of the view that it was a long standing demand and requirement of the residents which required urgent attention of the authorities concerned.

“There was an urgent need to run busses from Rawat to Islamabad which would also help reduce traffic load of personal vehicles plying on Expressway, “Muhammad Atif, a citizen said.

He further said, the work on phase II of the Islamabad signal free corridor project from Rawat to Airport Choke to be continued in January and an extra lane should be constructed on this road, only for metro.

Nabila a journalist working at zero point said that thousands of passengers on Murree road were taking benefit on daily basis from the huge project of metro.

Thousands of government employees, businessmen and others travel daily from these areas to Islamabad for their jobs and routine works. The non-availability of standard public transport was a constant problem for them to reach their destinations in time, Jameel Ahmad a resident of Humak opined.

A daily commuter Taimoor Jadoon complaining the situation, said the drivers of public transport vans neither complete their routes nor take care of time and their attitude with the passengers was another issue.

Ejaz Khan a resident of Rawat working at Pak-Secretariat said “I daily travel to the capital but I have to change a couple of public vehicles, taking too much time to reach office”.

Asif Choudhry another resident of Gulzare Quaid said that these public transporters overcharge besides over-loading their vans.

The women passengers were more concerned of the situation who have to wait for long to get a seat as only front seat was meant for them.
