Indian minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife found dead in New Delhi

NEW DELHI: Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor, the wife of Indian senior minister Shashi Tharoor, was found dead in a five-star hotel in New Delhi on Friday, Indian media reported.

The initial reports said that the cause of Sunanda’s death seems to be a suicide case.

The news comes just a day after Sunanda and her husband Shashi Tharoor were involved in a Twitter controversy, also involving a Pakistani woman journalist.

On Thursday, in a joint statement, the minister and his wife said that they are distressed by an “unseemly controversy” over some “unauthorised tweets” posted from their Twitter accounts and that both are “happily married and intend to remain that way”.

Sunanda Pushkar had accused the 45-year-old Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar of stalking her husband and trying to “break” her marriage when she was away for medical treatment.
