For the last two nights, Muslims had formed a massive vigil to stop the demolition, with hundreds of people camping inside and outside the historic mosque. There are 28 other mosques that are on the list of demolition in Ujjain for extending roads in the city ahead of the major Hindu pilgrimage.

Demolishing a 600-year-old heritage site (Shahi Masjid Ujjain) for road widening in the name of development and progress is the height of hatred against Muslims. The matter is pending in court. Demolishing a heritage site of such historical significance is a new wave against worship places of Christians and Muslims in India.
