ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Friday that the United States cannot be trusted and it has been proved that it does not want peace in Pakistan.
His statement came a day after a US drone strike targeted an Islamic seminary in Tal area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district, killing at least six persons including key leaders of Haqqani network.
However, a day before US drone strike, Prime Minister’s advisor on foreign affairs and national security Sartaj Aziz told a meeting of Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs that the US had assured Pakistan that it would not carry out any missile strike during proposed peace talks between the Pakistani government and Taliban insurgents.
Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Friday, the interior minister said he was dumbfounded on how Foreign Affairs advisor Sartaj Aziz believed the US assurance over drone strikes.
The interior minister asked how anyone could call the US a friend of Pakistan after the recent drone strikes.
“Actions have made it clear that the US neither wants peace in Pakistan nor talks with the Taliban,” he added.
