QUETTA: A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed across Balochistan on Monday on the call of Jamhori Watan Party (JWP) and Baloch Republican Party (BRP) to mark the 7th death anniversary of veteran Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

According to reports, business activities and education institutions in different cities of the restive province remained closed.

Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti was killed in a cave on August 26, 2006 during a military crackdown allegedly ordered by Pervez Musharraf who was president and army chief at the time.

Bugti had led a campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources.

His death had sparked angry protests throughout the country.
