KARACHI, Pakistan: A day after the former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain was detained on corruption charges, an anti-corruption court in Karachi on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for two Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leaders Yousuf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

The two PPP leaders have been accused of being involved in a multi-million rupee scandal in the Trade Development Authority (TDAP).

Today, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented a final charge sheet with 12 cases registered against the former prime minister and the other PPP senior leader before the anti-corruption court.

Later, the court issued arrest warrants for the arrest of PPP leaders and directed the police to arrest the accused and present them before the court in the next hearing on September 10.

Earlier on Wednesday, the former Federal Minister for Petroleum and the current Sindh Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Asim Hussain was taken into custody by law enforcement agencies in Karachi.

Dr Asim has now reportedly been handed over to Rangers who are interrogating him regarding his alleged involvement in corruption.

Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the detention of Dr Asim. The petitioner has contended that Dr Asim’s arrest is unlawful and he should be released.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians.
