Karachi operation not party-specific, Nawaz tells MQM delegation

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the ongoing operation in Karachi is not party-specific, and law-enforcement agencies have been directed to act indiscriminately.

In a meeting with a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) delegation in Islamabad on Friday, the prime minister said that the Karachi operation was started after taking all political parties on board and this will continue till the elimination of all criminal elements.

The prime minister said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) does not believe in policy of confrontation.

“We have struggled for the restoration of democracy and for upholding the rule of law having learnt a lot from the past,” he said.

“We have faced extremely difficult times, but did not compromise on our principles.”

Nawaz Sharif said that political parties have the moral obligation to make sincere efforts to restore peace and stability in Karachi.

Later talking to media, the MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said that during the meeting, the prime minister has vowed to investigate the matter of Saulat Mirza’s video recording.

“The prime minister has assured us that he will look into how recording a video was possible after a black warrant had been issued and will let us know the details,” Sattar said.

Sattar said that during the meeting with the prime minister, his party conveyed and openly laid out its reservations and concerns in the aftermath of the Rangers’ raid at the MQM headquarters in Karachi Nine Zero on March 11.

The MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi told media that the prime minister has promised to probe into the facts about Nine Zero raid.
