US opposes extra-constitutional change to democratic system in Pakistan

WASHINGTON: The United States has said that it opposes any efforts to impose extra-constitutional change to the democratic system in Pakistan, and called for Pakistani political parties to resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue.

In the daily briefing in Washington, the US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said that the United States has been carefully monitoring the demonstrations in Islamabad.

The spokesperson also expressed US endorsement of May 2013 election in Pakistan and once again said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is the elected leader of the country.
