MFN status: India needs to address its concerns, says Pakistan

NEW DELHI, India: Pakistan has said that the Indian government needs to address its concerns related to market access, tariff and non-tariff barriers as New Delhi awaits the most favored nation (MFN) status from Islamabad.

A 25-member Pakistani delegation is in India to attend the fourth meeting of the Pakistan-India joint business forum to discuss ways and means to further enhance trade between both the countries.

“There is need to address concerns relating to market access, tariff and non-tariff barriers,” the Pakistani high commissioner to India Abdul Basit said while addressing the two-day meeting.

The Pakistani envoy said that Pakistan wants a level-playing field for promoting and further strengthening trade ties with India.

“At the same time, innovative proposals and ideas may also be explored which can help create economic inter-dependence between the two countries. Mutual economic dependence will boost confidence amongst the business communities and make economic cooperation sustainable,” Basit said.
