40 Afghans arrested in Colombo for spreading extremist Islam and radicalism

Colombo: Pandura police Colombo have arrested around 40 Afghans who were allegedly involved in criminal activities including spreading hate among Muslims and Non-Muslims in Colombo.

According to initial reports Colombo police said these Afghans were living illegally and were linked with drug business however some local journalists claim that Sri Lankan government was under playing these arrests and these Afghan were involved in spreading Extremist Islam in the country and could be linke3d with recent riots that took place in the country. Sources claim that Afghans were also involved in Osh riots in Kyrgyzstan in 2010 for spreading hatred between Uzbeks and Kyrygz population and same situation was found here in Sri Lanka.

When authorities were contacted they refused to comment over the nature of allegations against these Afghans. Sources said that Sri Lanka will take the issue at diplomatic level with Afghan government soon and insurance of visas to afghans will go slow down till the investigation of this case
