PM to inaugurate two coal-based power plants at Port Qasim today

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate two coal-based power plants with total capacity of 1,320 megawatts at Port Qasim in Karachi on Tuesday.

An official source said that these two power plants will add cheap electricity in power system by means of imported coal. He said that each power plant will produce 660 megawatts.

The project is joint venture of Chinese and Qatari companies Sinohydro Resources Limited and Al-Mirqab Capital.

The Port Qasim Power Plant will have state-of-the-art technology that would produce coal-based, low-cost electricity with minimum environmental impacts and maximum efficiency. The project will also provide employment opportunities to local people.
