Lawyers boycott courts across country over Islamabad court attack

ISLAMABAD: Lawyers across the country boycotted court proceedings on Tuesday to protest against yesterday’s attack on district courts in Islamabad.

On Monday, militants stormed courts in F-8 area of Islamabad, killing at least 11 persons including additional session judge Rafaqat Awan and injuring 29 others. The Ahrarul Hind, a lesser-known splinter group of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Following the attack, the Pakistan Bar Council announced to observe black day across the country on Tuesday, while the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and District Bar decided to boycott court proceedings for a week mourning the deaths in terror incident.

Meanwhile, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani resumed its hearing of the suo motu notice taken over Islamabad attack on Tuesday.
