Musharraf to be indicted on March 11

ISLAMABAD: The special court formed to try the former President Pervez Musharraf for high treason has summoned him on March 11 for indictment after dismissing the petition seeking transfer of his trial to the military court.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali announcing its verdict about the jurisdiction of the court on Friday ‚ said that only the special court is authorized to hear the high treason case.

In its judgment, the court said that the army act which has been referred to in the petition no longer exists. It further stated that Musharraf is no longer a military officer‚ therefore‚ the military court is not authorized to hear his case.

The special court will now continue to hear the treason case against the former dictator.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 4.
