PAEC to generate 8,800 MW electricity through nuclear power plants by 2030

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) will generate 8,800 megawatt electricity through nuclear power plants by 2030 under the directives of the federal government, the PAEC chairman Dr Ansar Parvez said.

The PAEC chairman while giving a briefing to media representatives in Chashma said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has already performed ground-breaking ceremony of two nuclear power plants with a capacity of 1100 MW each in Karachi.

The commission will be operating four nuclear power plants of 325 to 340 MW and seven nuclear power plants with the capacity of 1100 MW each by 2030, he said.

The PAEC chairman, talking about the under construction nuclear power plants C-3 and C-4 at Chashma‚ said that both the plants will add more than 630 MW electricity to the national grid by 2016.

In reply to a question about safety measures of nuclear power plants‚ Dr Ansar said that enough safety measures are in place for all of our nuclear plants.
