SC seeks details of missing persons from four high courts

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday expressed its displeasure over federal government for nonproduction of more missing persons despite court’s orders and sought details of them from the high courts of four provinces.

A three-member-bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Ameer Hani Muslim resumed hearing the case pertaining to the missing persons.

On Saturday, the apex court had ordered the government to produce more missing persons, who were said to be in Afghanistan and Waziristan, in the next hearing of the case on Monday.

However, the government did not produce any of them during today’s course of hearing.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that two out of five missing persons have been identified and that they will be presented within couple of days. He apprised the court that the government is sincerely working on the missing persons case

The chief justice in his remarks said that the court’s orders regarding production of 14 missing persons before it have not been implemented and sought details of missing persons from the high courts of four provinces.
