ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday took serious notice of deteriorating law and order situation of Karachi and decided to convene a special session of the federal cabinet to discuss the issue.

According to an announcement of the government, the special cabinet session will be convened within the next 48 hours. Sindh Governor, Chief Minister, IG Police, DG Rangers and Chief Secretary will also attend the meeting.

The Prime Minister said that the federal government has serious concerns over the situation in Karachi, adding that all stakeholders should sit together to resolve the problem.

The federal government’s move came after Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) demanded on Tuesday to hand Karachi over to the Pakistani Army as civil administration has failed miserably to control the situation.
